“Blue Checkmark Verification, but for Any/All Photos and Videos on the Internet”

TL;DR

  • Nodle’s ‘Click’ application is trying to take the Instagram blue check mark verification system, and apply it to all of the photos and videos you take so everyone knows they’re not generated by AI.

  • Having a blockchain based ledger of content opens the doors for monetization at the user level, where users can allow others to license their content for a set fee.

  • However, Click verification becoming ‘the norm’ would require a monumental shift in behavior, from just about everyone with a smart phone.

Full Story

Imagine taking the Instagram blue check mark verification system, and applying it to the photos and videos you take…

So each piece of content you post online has a verified status, across platforms.

That’s pretty much exactly what Nodle’s ‘Click’ application is trying to do.

The goal?

Create a decentralized and universal standard for verifying media sources, to protect against AI generated fake news. The idea being, if it ain’t ‘Click’ verified, you (or the platform you’re using) can/should scrutinize the content.

Here’s how it works:

  1. You download the Click Camera App → create/upload a signature.

  2. Take photos/videos using the app → ‘Swipe to sign’ the image/video.

  3. The file, your signature, and the date/time is logged on the blockchain.

Here’s what’s cool about it:

Having a blockchain based ledger of content opens the doors for monetization at the user level, where users can allow others to license their content for a set fee.

For example, say you have footage of a notable event in your local area?

News sites could search the Click database by date/location → pick your footage → click ‘license’ → and pay for everything instantly using crypto.

No middle men (e.g. Getty Images), no haggling, no friction.

Here’s the problem…

For this universal system of verification to really work, it needs to become weird/out of place to see a piece of media that isn’t verified.

But right now, none of the media we consume comes with universal decentralized verification – and we automatically assume it’s not AI generated.

(…except maybe for your uncle Dave, who thinks he’s living in a simulation and is convinced that everything he sees/touches is an AI projection).

Point is: Click verification becoming ‘the norm’ would require a monumental shift in behavior, from just about everyone with a smart phone.

I.e. Using the Click Camera app to capture all their videos/photos, instead of their stock Apple/Android camera apps.

Good luck making that happen!

Here’s our unsolicited arm-chair-analyst solution…

Nodle should license Click’s verification technology to Apple & Android, so they can make it a standard feature of their stock camera apps.

(We wouldn’t be surprised if that’s already a long term plan of Nodle’s).

…as long as AI continues on its exponential growth curve, we’re gonna need it!
