Animoca Brands Japan, a subsidiary of the global Web3 leader Animoca Brands, and KDDI Corporation, a major telecommunications company, have embarked on a pioneering partnership to advance Web3 adoption.
This collaboration, formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), focuses on integrating Mocaverse, an innovative growth network by Animoca Brands, with KDDI’s αU (Alpha U) services, creating a more interconnected Web3 ecosystem.
Unifying Web3 Culture and Entertainment
The partnership aims to connect Web3 enthusiasts with various Web3 games, culture, and entertainment. By combining Mocaverse’s advanced infrastructure with αU’s services, they aim to establish a Web3 experience accessible to a global audience.
The integration targets merging Mocaverse’s decentralized identifier (DID), the Moca ID, with the αU wallet. This move will enable αU wallet users to easily interact with Web3 content, including games and cultural experiences within the Mocaverse ecosystem. Additionally, the partnership hopes to utilize both companies’ intellectual property and Web3 content to enhance the digital landscape, particularly through NFT sales for the Web3 game PHANTOM GALAXIES on the αU market.
Building the Web3 Cultural Economy
Animoca Brands has established itself as a major player in the Web3 space, investing in blockchain games, metaverses, decentralized finance, and digital wallets. Animoca Brands Japan, dedicated to promoting Japanese IP globally, plays a vital role in this arena.
Mocaverse, initially an NFT project, has evolved into a vast growth network with an interoperable infrastructure designed to foster a large on-chain cultural economy. And, with over 750,000 users since the introduction of Moca ID in November 2023, Mocaverse has shown rapid adoption and engagement within its community.
KDDI’s αU: Enhancing Virtual Experiences
KDDI introduced αU in March 2023, a move empowering creators and users in the Web3 space. αU offers a range of services that blur the lines between reality and virtual experiences. From the αU wallet and marketplace for managing NFTs and cryptocurrencies to immersive entertainment in the αU metaverse and live concerts, αU sets new standards in virtual engagement and creativity.
Kenneth Shek, project lead of Mocaverse, commented on the move: “We are incredibly excited to partner with KDDI, one of the largest telecommunication providers with over 31 million of users in Japan, and explore opportunities to onboard millions of retail users to Web3 cultural and entertainment experiences through our interoperable on-chain identity Moca ID and point system. Not only does Japan have a strong culture of IP and gaming, but Japanese users are well accustomed to using point systems.”
The strategic partnership between Animoca Brands Japan and KDDI signifies a forward-looking approach to Web3 adoption, promising an enhanced digital experience for users worldwide. Furthermore, by leveraging each other’s strengths, they aim to lead the way to a future where real and virtual worlds seamlessly intertwine, opening up new possibilities for creativity, entertainment, and social interaction in the Web3 space.
