The Sandbox prepares to take a major leap forward in their metaverse vision, as they begin opening the doors to user created content! By the end of the year (2023), they expect to have the public hosting and running their own experiences!
Though we have had a chance to see and explore a number of experiences in The Sandbox, these were always carefully controlled releases from partner projects. Since the beginning, the goal for The Sandbox has been to allow anyone who owns a plot of land to be able to create and publish their own gaming or social experience. Now we take a step towards that goal with this latest announcement.
Now, any creator can publish their experience and create a landing page. After that, they can submit a request for permission to join the early access launch. Once accepted, experience creators will be able to open their experience to the public and even choose whether to charge an entrance fee or gate the whole thing by requiring ownership of a specific NFT!
Public experiences will be discoverable on the main map and creators will also be able to share direct links to their creations.
Building Experiences in The Sandbox
Anyone with a land plot can create their own experience using the official Game Maker tool. The Game Maker is kind of clunky and limited in its options, but clever users have been able to build some amazing, interactive experiences with it.
The Game Maker itself includes a number of tutorials for both basic and advanced functionality. You can also read a gitbook full of info about building experiences called The Game Maker Academy, created by The Sandbox.
The Game Maker is designed to be used by anyone. It also comes with a number of different block textures and items that anyone can use for free in their creations. The McSandbox
But that’s not all happening in The Sandbox. We also have some new experiences, including McNuggets Land. That’s right, McDonald’s comes to The Sandbox with their very own nugget-themed game! Players can enter McNugget Land to learn more about the famous fast food (and the dipping sauces — gotta have that Szechuan sauce!) and complete quests for a chance to win prizes, including 100K SAND tokens, Mystery Boxes, and even 365 days of free McNuggets! What is The Sandbox?
The Sandbox is a collection of virtual experiences, each one created and customized by the plot owner. The Sandbox ecosystem continues to grow by leaps and bounds. They’ve reached a point where they constantly have at least one or more play and earn events ongoing. Along the way, The Sandbox has made over 700 partnerships, many of them building their own Sandbox experiences! And with lots of big names among them like Atari, Snoop Dogg, Warner Music, and more!
