Two giants of gaming, Ubisoft and Immutable, announce a new partnership. Though both come from different sides of the gaming world, this partnership seeks to help merge the web2 and web3 gaming ecosystems, and could be a huge step for online gaming in general!
Another big announcement from Immutable as they reveal a strategic partnership with Ubisoft. We don’t have a lot of details about this partnership yet, but we do know that the general focus is on onboarding new players to web3 in a seamless and easy experience that can be utilized by developers and scaled to thousands or even millions of users!
Ubisoft is a giant in gaming, employing nearly 20,000 people in game development studios around the world. Having an entity of this size show interest in blockchain gaming is huge. And Immutable landing a partnership with them is even bigger!
Ubisoft already announced a web3 game in development known as Champions Tactics. If Immutable can provide the tools and ecosystem they need to build more web3 integrations, expect to see a lot more announcements in the coming year! You can read the official partnership announcement here.
What is Immutable X?
Immutable X is an Ethereum layer 2 scaling solution for NFTs. Developed as an offshoot from Gods Unchained, when the team realized that high gas fees were a major hindrance to card trading, Immutable X has grown quickly into a significant NFT marketplace. Immutable X has attracted a growing array of projects to its platform. Some notable names include Gods Unchained, Guild of Guardians, Illuvium, and Ember Sword. But it’s not just for gaming NFTs. Immutable X also hosts dozens of other NFT projects.
The platform went live in 2021 and launched its token later that year. There are no gas fees when trading on IMX. However, there are ‘protocol’ fees of 2% on every trade and sometimes market fees from the projects as well. The platform supports over a dozen tokens including ETH, IMX, GODS, and GOG tokens. Most tokens for the games available on the platform can be used for purchases.
Immutable has been on a tear this year, making huge partnerships with Polygon, Amazon, and most recently, Ubisoft. They have also had the first launch of Immutable Passport, an important facet of their onboarding and integration system.
