Japanophiles can celebrate as Upland announces an upcoming expansion to Tokyo! Though the launch will only cover a small part of this huge city, there will still be over twenty thousand properties and fifteen Terminals available for purchase!
Upland expands again, this time in Asia as they open up the first neighborhoods in Tokyo, formerly known as Edo in feudal Japan.
Tokyo will officially launch on August 17th at 1am PT. However, if you’re interested in picking up a Terminal (which now receive passive income from use), then you need to be ready before the launch. Registration for the Terminal sale opens on Sunday, August 13th at 8am PT. The sale itself opens on August 14th, also at 8am PT. At that time there will be 15 Tokyo International Airport Terminals available for the price of $1,536. Purchase will be made through the web version of Upland’s store.
Tokyo will open with about 20,000 properties across 30 neighborhoods, focused on Shibuya City (a special ward in Tokyo).
Collections in Tokyo
Tokyo will first launch in ‘Vanilla Mode’. This means that initially, there will be no Collection bonuses for properties in Tokyo. When the Collections are revealed, any un-minted properties that fit into a Collection are temporarily locked. The cost of these properties are then re-evaluated based on the Collection level, re-priced, and re-opened for public purchase. This Vanilla Mode system provides an initial period of property speculation where players can make purchases based on where they think the Collections will be offered.
Apparently Japan uses an addressing system that is the opposite of the western style (ie, postal code first — which actually makes more sense when you think about it), and for some related reason I’m unclear about, Upland will not offer street Collections in Tokyo.
The Collection reveal will happen on August 24th at 9am PT.
What is Upland?
Upland is a free to play, property trading and city-building game where players can explore cities, collect properties and meet other players. The play-to-earn game is available on Android, iOS, and the Web.
Each player in Upland is given a status determined by his/her net worth based on property and token holdings. The different ranks are Visitor, Uplander, Director, Executive, Pro, and Chief Executive. When a user joins the game for the first time, he is assigned Visitor status. And though players can buy properties right from the start, they can’t sell them until they reach Uplander status.
The official currency in Upland is UPX. However, this is an in-game currency only and cannot be traded between players.
Players earn passive UPX just by owning properties. They also receive income anytime another player “sends” themselves to an owned property. In addition, players can complete Collections in-game by owning specific properties (five properties in the same city, for example). These provide a one-time UPX payout and then a passive boost to UPX earning as long as you maintain that Collection. Players can also buy UPX tokens directly from Upland.
Upland has expanded greatly over time, now encompassing more than a dozen cities. They have also introduced plot customization. Players can construct buildings and decorate their properties in a number of different ways. Players can also own shops, selling their own, customized Block Explorers!
