Helium is made up of a network of Wi-fi looking hotspots, that share mobile data and phone signal – all of which are operated by everyday people, who earn crypto tokens for supporting the network.
(And when phone users aren’t within range of a hotspot – Helium taps the T-mobile network).
Working largely outside the existing system like this means Helium can (somehow) offer:
