American multinational e-commerce company eBay sold the Solana Saga phone for as much as $5,000, more than eight times the retail cost.

This was after the phone got sold out on the official website following a free Bonk memecoin airdrop. A December 16 eBay listing showed two unopened in-box Solana Saga phones selling for $5,000 or ābest offer.Ā
Another device was listed for $3,316 or ābest offer.ā All these devices are no longer available on the online marketplace website. About 20 other devices were sold for over $2,000 in the course of the weekend. Compared to the $599 price tag of these phones on the Solana Mobile website, the $2000+ cost puts a markup of about $1400.
Solana Introduces Crypto-First Android Phone at $1K
A hype around the Solana Saga phones started last year when the blockchain company was preparing for its launch. Solana Saga is a flagship crypto-first Android phone designed to possess āSnapdragonĀ® 8+ Gen 1, 12GB of RAM, 512GM of Flash, 6.67ā OLED displayā specifications. The phones are integrated with SMS in addition to inputs from OSOM Privacy.
Even before the launch earlier this year, the company placed each of the Solana Saga phones at $1000 per unit. However, interested customers were allowed to join the waitlist for the phone for only $100.
Solana Mobile Sent to DevelopersĀ
By 2022, the devices were made available pre order. The firm was already making plans by November to send off the pre-production batch of the Saga phone to developers. The preproduction kit included 35,000 developer-focused kits, produced and packaged to be shipped to these developers.Ā
The plan was to get it across to the developers by December 15. When these developers who held a copy of the Saga pass eventually received the devices, they commenced the testing ofĀ Applications (DApps) for the Solana dApp store on the phones.Ā

Upon launch, each new Solana Saga phone came with a free 30 million Bonk (BONK) token.
