War on Bugs rolls out major update ahead of Neo X MainNet launch

The War on Bugs development team has released a major update to enhance mobile usability, deepen core gameplay systems, and lay the foundation for its upcoming deployment on the Neo X MainNet. The release includes a rework of the Space Shooter arcade game, a new daily challenges system, and a full redesign of the game’s primary menu, now presented as the “Professor Dashboard Lab.”

Alongside these gameplay improvements, the team has reiterated its development priorities for the coming weeks. These include finalizing game balance ahead of Neo X MainNet integration and preparing for the Limited Edition Legendary NFT card collection launch. According to the team, the upcoming release will represent the most valuable NFT drop in the project’s lifecycle.

Expanding Arcade Play and Strategic Systems

War on Bugs continues to position itself as a competitive arcade battler and a platform for long-term progression via on-chain assets. Players can mint characters and in-game items as NFTs, earning persistent gameplay advantages. Arcade competitions like Space Shooter and Whack‑A‑Bug offer skill-based engagement, while Buggy Slots introduces a chance-based gaming experience. Additional systems, including daily login bonuses, a player codex, and leaderboard rankings, offer recurring incentives and track long-term achievement.

With the most recent update, Space Shooter has undergone extensive changes. Regular runs now conclude with dedicated boss encounters, while a new arcade mode introduces continuously intensifying enemy waves and unique scoring mechanics for leaderboard competition. Gameplay variety has been expanded with new elite enemy types that feature shields, retaliatory fire, and mid-run item pickups that replenish health or increase missile capacity. Players also have access to a new charged shot mechanic and encounter bosses that enter an “enraged” mode at half health, modifying attack patterns and speed.

The development team also introduced a redesigned Control Room, which serves as the central hub for daily objectives, player analytics, and progress tracking. Players can now engage with the new daily challenges system through this interface, offering additional rewards for completing time-limited goals. To support deck optimization, the Deck Manager has been updated to include an “Upcycle Manager” tab, simplifying card management and planning for advanced users.

Mobile-First Improvements and Visual Refinements

The update includes a broad set of mobile interface improvements designed to improve usability across screen sizes. Inventory and shop menus now feature mobile-first modals with centered layouts and clear close controls. Gameplay overlays, HUD elements, and mini-game interfaces have been adapted with improved spacing and responsive breakpoints.

At the same time, the application now runs in a full-screen layout that eliminates non-essential interface elements.

Wallet connectivity has been refined through an updated Reown AppKit adapter, offering a unified dark modal for session management. Message signing and state handling improvements have also been implemented to create a smoother authorization experience.

The redesigned main menu, now stylized as the “Professor Dashboard Lab,” introduces a new tiled layout with hover interactions and updated visual feedback. In arcade gameplay, difficulty has been subtly adjusted: invincibility duration has been reduced from 2.0 to 1.2 seconds, and boss health in the maze variant has been doubled to increase challenge.

Backend Fixes and Player Feedback

Several fixes were also released in response to community bug reports. Booster pack reveals no longer auto-dismiss, now scaling properly to phone screens and allowing manual control over visibility. The codex system, card effects display, and deck logic have been corrected to reflect durations and upgrade mechanics properly.

Gameplay fixes include improved elite enemy behavior in the maze mode, accurate bug counters, and staggered swarm animations for improved combat clarity. Leaderboard functionality and button placement issues in Space Shooter have been resolved, and mobile scaling across several interfaces, including the leaderboard view, has been corrected.
